Biography
Viktor Astakhov received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Tula State Polytechnic University, Tula-Moscow, Russia, in 1983. He was awarded a D.Sc. designation and title of State Professor of Ukraine in 1991. Currently, Astakhov is the tool research and application manager of General Motors Business Unit of PSMI. As a professor, he is involved in supervising of graduate students at Michigan State University. Astakhov has won a number of national and international awards for both his teaching and research. Astakhov has authored books like Geometry of Single-point Turning Tools and Drills, Fundamentals and Practical Applications, Tribology of Metal Cutting, Physics of Strength and Fracture Control and Mechanics of Metal Cutting. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Advances in Machining and Forming Operations, and associate editor, board member, reviewer and advisor for many international journals and professional societies.
Research Interest
theory (including physics, analytical and numerical FEM modeling) of metal cutting and its applications, cutting tool design, assessment and optimization, machinability of materials, new tool materials and coatings, design of experiments, and coolant application practices.

Biography
Dr. Subhash Rakheja received a PhD in mechanical engineering from Concordia University. He joined the National Research Council soon after graduation and faculty in Concordia as a Research Assistant Professor. He became Associate Professor in 1989 and Professor in 1994. He is a research chair in Vehicular Ergo-dynamics in Concordia University. He was also honored with the title of the University Research Fellow in 2005. Dr. Rakheja is a fellow of the CSME and of the ASME. He is the editor of the International Journal of Industrial ergonomics and International Journal of Vehicle Performance and associate editor of the SAE Journal of Commercial Vehicles and the International Journal of Heavy Vehicle Systems. He continues to serve in the Canadian Advisory Council on International Standards. He has won the SAE Arch T. Colwell Merit Award, Alice Hamilton Award from Center for Disease Control (USA) and Liberty Mutual Award.
Research Interest
His research expertise includes advanced transportation systems and highway safety, human responses to workplace vibration and driver-vehicle interactions.
